As Creative Development Manager at Daphne’s Greek Cafe, I was asked by founder George Katakalidis to lead the full interior design vision for his new concept, EXY Restaurant & Lounge. The project marked a strategic departure from fast-casual dining into a more elevated, nightlife-driven experience reimagining Greek culture through a modern, upscale lens. I directed the creative from concept through execution, shaping a “Greek chic” environment that balanced refined dining with a high-energy lounge atmosphere. The design emphasized contrast and flow: a polished main dining room transitioned seamlessly into a vibrant bar and lounge area, supported by layered lighting, contemporary finishes, and curated textures that reinforced a trendy, cosmopolitan feel. A small outdoor patio extended the experience into the surrounding Gaslamp District, offering guests a connection to the city’s nightlife.
Working closely with ownership and stakeholders, I ensured the space aligned with the culinary vision, an elevated Mediterranean menu featuring organic ingredients, prix fixe offerings, and a premium beverage program. The final environment supported multiple guest experiences, including intimate dining, social gatherings, and private events, positioning EXY as a distinctive destination within San Diego’s upscale restaurant scene.
